How to read the total
| Total | Band | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| 13–15 | Mild | Report the breakdown, not just the total — a falling motor score matters more than the sum. |
| 9–12 | Moderate | Reassess often and trend it. A drop of two or more points is a change in the patient. |
| 3–8 | Severe | The patient may not protect their own airway. The airway becomes your problem. |
Score the best response you can elicit, and trend it. A single number says little; a falling one says a lot.
